6 | The Galilean | “Chapin Garner's The Galilean is a religious drama and a fascinating political commentary about the power machinations leading to Christ's death and resurrection. I found myself invested in these lives and in this history in a way that was surprising and profound. This play brings Christ, his followers, and even his detractors alive in ways not addressed on the stage until now. It's a thrilling piece of work.” Kate Snodgrass

5 | The Galilean | Garner's play mines the relationships between Herod, Pilate, Judas and Caiaphas to reveal their the fears and motivations. This back-story contextualizes Jesus in his time. But it also opens up his story. Whether used in church or in another setting, the Galilean will open up the gospel for its audience.

4 | RE: The Galilean by S. Chapin Garner | As a senior citizen I have experienced many Good Fridays, but attending a reading of the Galilean by actors from the Boston Playwrights Theatre on Good Friday 2010, made it one of the most memorable.

3 | be sure to see this powerful play | The Galilean is a powerful, soul-stirring play. Garner’s portrayal of the events leading to Jesus’ crucifixion, and the very real and relatable personalities of the characters are so thought provoking. The reading made the Biblical story come alive. See it ASAP. You’ll be glad you did.

2 | RE: The Galilean by S. Chapin Garner | This is a powerful work! Chapin Garner has captured the political drama in Jerusalem that led to Jesus' crucifixion. The power of these leaders, their willingness to use it in this way, the strange social-political chemistry of Jesus' last week -- all of these come vividly to life in the pages of this script. This is a great read! Now I can't wait 'til it becomes a great play or readers theatre piece in our church!

1 | The Galilean by S. Chapin Garner | Even as a reading, this is a beautifully crafted, powerful play that drew me right into the time and place of the Galilean. This simply doesn't happen without authentic dialogue, which Garner sustains throughout. The characters are richly drawn and remind us that Biblical characters were real people with complex lives in complex times, just like us. For me, the room dropped away and I was in the moment. Treat your imagination to this wonderful, thoughtful production when you get the chance.
