She has noticed a homeless man rummaging through her garbage during the past month, so she "plants" some food for him. Karen works at the First Street Home, and today she introduces herself to the Old Man, encouraging him to come down to the Home. He refuses. However, Karen's quick wit and kindness befriend the Old Man. Karen tries gently to find out about the Old Man's past, his reasons for living on the street. She desperately wants to understand. The Old Man is skeptical about Karen's' motives. Karen reveals her father had left when she was only four. This is the foundation for her passion. In an honest but caring conversation, the two explore the pain and heartache running away usually will cause. Karen leaves, succeeding in getting the Old Man to consider coming to the home. In a very touching and surprising conclusion after Karen has left, the audience realizes the Old Man is Karen's father. | | Performance Royalty: Nonroyalty | | |
